Pride Month is not just a celebration of the LGBTQ+ community but also a time to recognize and address the challenges that members of this community face every day. At Reach Lives, we have always strived to be an ally, extending our support to those who are often marginalized and underprivileged. This year, in North Bengaluru, we were able to distribute much-needed rations to 100 trans persons living in challenging conditions, but this is not where our journey began.
Last year, in a significant stride towards inclusivity, we proudly undertook the LGBTQube project, leading us to embrace the healthcare needs of India's first trans-run orphanage, Nammane Summane. Our involvement with the LGBTQ+ community, however, extends beyond these projects. It includes initiating conversations, raising awareness, and advocating for the rights and well-being of transgender persons.
In another instance, we leveraged the publicity from our projects to screen a movie for 50 previously discriminated trans persons. Their emotional response to a simple pleasure many of us take for granted was a stark reminder of the social exclusion they regularly experience.
Fast forward to this year, as we celebrated Pride Month with a renewed commitment, we reached out to underprivileged transpersons in North Bengaluru, mainly those engaged in begging and sex work. Our volunteers distributed ration kits that included essentials like rice, lentils, cooking oil, sugar, spices, and more. The sight of their grateful smiles, the hope in their eyes, and the sheer joy of their interaction with our team was truly humbling.
We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our sponsors who made this initiative possible. Your unwavering support keeps our commitment to equality, inclusivity, and love alive. Your contributions, no matter how small, have the power to create big changes in someone's life.
